In July 1999, our daughter was 8 months and son 3 years old. Our daughter carried a stuffed giraffe named Gigi with her everywhere she went. We had just returned from a week at bible camp when we received a terrible phone call. My grandfather had been diagnosed with colon cancer and had days to live. We headed straight to Florida to be with him and my Grandma.

The following week Papa passed away, leaving my Grandma alone and heartbroken.  She and my Papa were amazing, genuinely happy together. They spoke often of their family and friends being such a blessing in their lives. Grandma was now faced with the task of selling their home near the beach and moving out of state to be with the rest of us.

When I was a child, Grandma used to sew Barbie doll clothes for me, decor for their home, and even crafts for their church. She decided to pass along her beloved Kenmore sewing machine to me, not realizing what lie ahead. My mind became a constant whir of ideas and I began visiting our local fabric and notions shop. I loved all those colorful European trims and dainty heirloom fabrics!

I learned to sew with the help of many ladies in our church, my mother, mother in law, and Grandma. We developed the most loving friendships from all our time spent together. I remember being so touched that these women shared my interest in sewing and most especially, their love for my children. I imagined our children wearing the most precious outfits that I had designed and those dreams quickly became reality. Strangers began stopping me in grocery stores, the library, at the park, and anywhere my children were wearing my creations to ask where they could find such clothing. I began sewing for others and very soon, Gigi Creations was born.

Gigi the stuffed giraffe is still around today and becoming more lovingly worn, with occasional holes and frequent trips to the washing machine. Our daughter is now 9 and our son 12 years old. I still sew for them but haved turned my passion for sewing and fabrics into a business. It makes me smile to think of my Grandma and Papa and the life they shared. I am so appreciative of everyone who's had a hand in where I am today. I hope you will enjoy your Gigi Creations for years to come.
